Lecture: Breaking digital firewalls in the Arab Spring
The talk presents some of the conclusions of a PhD study conducted during 2010-2012 on website censorship and circumvention in the Arab world during the Arab spring. It also exemplifies a case where activism work through the construction and deployment of Alkasir website censorship circumvention tool was used for research purposes, demonstrating that the two areas of activism and research can indeed go hand in hand on certain occasions.
